Leadership Statement.
“For a leader to be trusted, he or she must, of necessity, be a moral person by character, attitudes and activities”
Roddy Mullin (2018). Rethinking leadership a human centered approach to management ethics. Abingdon, Oxon New York, Ny Routledge.
As a leader, I believe in fostering an environment of trust, collaboration, and continuous growth. My approach is rooted in adaptability and empathy, prioritising the needs of my team and the objectives of the organisation. I strive to inspire and empower others by leading through example and maintaining a positive, solution-oriented mindset.
I believe that creativity and innovation are essential components of effective leadership. The ability to solve problems quickly and decisively under pressure is a critical skill, enabling leaders to adapt to change and seize new opportunities. As Puccio, Mance, and Murdock (2011) said, "To be successful, leaders must be able to use their imaginations to react to change as well as to proactively seize opportunities inherent in change."
Drawing on Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence framework, I can happily say that I prioritise self-awareness, empathy, and relationship management in my leadership style. By understanding and responding to the emotions and needs of my team, I can create a supportive and motivating atmosphere where individuals feel valued and empowered to contribute their best work.
My leadership philosophy is also influenced by Belbin’s Team Roles theory, which highlights the importance of diverse skills and strengths within a team. As a Resource Investigator and Team Worker, I naturally focus on building strong connections, facilitating collaboration, and fostering a cohesive team dynamic. I recognize the unique contributions of each team member and aim to create a space where everyone’s strengths can shine.
I am a believer of Robert K. Greenleaf’s Servant Leadership theory, a leadership style that focuses on serving others, rather than gaining power. It's based on the idea that the most effective leaders are those who help others, including customers, employees, and the community. This approach aligns closely with my values, as I strive to prioritise the development and well-being of my team whilst working collaboratively toward shared goals; approaching change with clarity, enthusiasm, and resilience, ensuring my team feels confident and supported throughout transitions.
Ultimately, my leadership style is a blend of strategic vision and a people-centered approach. I am committed to creating environments where innovation, inclusivity, and personal growth thrive. By maintaining open communication, encouraging feedback, and celebrating successes, I aim to inspire my team to exceed expectations and achieve collective success.
